Quick and Dirty recap: October had so much magic in it.

— More improv comedy teaching & performing at Happier Valley
— Performances on Yom Kippor — at a music and meditation service — solo piano at 20:51 and a duet with Sandi Jo Malmon 35:10
— Participating in Vanessa Hale’s first music video!
— lots of “music dates” with new and old friends.
Many challenges this month, including car & car insurance issues, tart and sharp family karma, navigating boundaries with roommates, self-worth up and downs, and interrupted sleep. On the plus side, rock climbing has been a blast and I’ve been going to yoga classes — and I’ve played a bunch of music with old and new friends.
Lots of fun things happening in November:
November Classes:
Online Songwriting — Meeting the Teacher Within
6-8:30pm on Zoom, Mondays in November
Ready to write songs? Feeling not ready where to begin? Or been writing for years but still don’t know how to consistently have ease and joy while you do it? This is the place: to write often, deconstruct the process, and fall in love with the sacred mirror of songwriting. We have a lovely group of 4 registered and there’s room for a few more. Check out my last post for more info. Interested but not available? Email me to get on the waitlist for the next class! We start on Monday.
Exploring Improvisation: Tuesday Nov 5th and Wednesday 13th
Exploring Improvisation, aka How to Jam with Anyone, is due for a rebrand. I get so excited about the work, yet the core of it is so ineffable. It’s the place in Boston to connect with relationship, presence, and play as the core sources of musical inspiration. No matter what your background is, the process of finding yourself is home. It amazes me how much work is done by the invitation alone: listen deeply and be yourself. And, it’s a joy to share my expertise — to ensure that people of all instruments skill levels can become equal play partners in these short couple hours. People find that it’s much less intimidating to make music with others when you’re surrounded by kind, generous, open-minded people. We consistently go beyond ourselves, our expectations, our limiting beliefs. By the end of class — often the lights are shut off and we’re playing music that is melting my mind — the group shares the feeling: the most important music ever made is happening right here, right now. Come see what it’s all about!
Performances:
Songbuilder Soiree — November 10th @ 6:30pm
This event has my heart!
A consistent home-run, we are taking this every-other-month communal music making event to the Lilypad! I’ll have a love-note to this event later this week as a final push to sell it out.
Come ready to sing, co-create, and appreciate the joy of songs and making music together!

Pit Band for We Will Rock You @ Reading Memorial High School — been a while since playing in a pit band! And been even longer since I had been to my old high school. I’ll be playing alongside Steve Sarro, the profoundly joyful Improv Asylum head music director, and a few other talented professionals. The kids are, as expected, wildly talented for high schoolers. Been fun to get intimate with some more Queen, too.

Save the Dates for December:
Friday December 5th — Alex Kalil’s Art Opening — UU church in Boston, time TBD — I’ll be supporting my new friend’s gallery opening, with some performance & participatory based music making. It’s been very affecting to have his work hung up in my my studio, and the hallway going up to it. It’s really special work
Friday December 13th — Another Not-Birthday concert — more info on this coming soon! Some wonderful improvisations from my tai chi community, including Arthur Goodridge, Tufts professors Michael Mclaughlin and John McDonald, vocalist Karol Bennet, and more. Really exquisite musicians. Will be a top notch evening of improvisation. Happening at Tufts’ Distler Hall!
